Janusz Narzyński (born March 14, 1928 in Warsaw ; † March 14, 2020 there ) was a Polish Evangelical Lutheran theologian , bishop of the Evangelical Augsburg Church of Poland and ecumenist .

Live and act

Narzyński studied after obtaining his university entrance evangelical theology and became a priest ordained . After serving as parish priest for a few years, he was elected bishop by the synod of his church in 1975. He held this office until he retired in 1991. As early as the 1950s - still as a parish priest - he campaigned for pastoral care also for Germans living in Poland and organized the holding of church services in German. In his wife Barbara, who ran the Polish Bible Society and in the center of Warsaw ran a Protestant bookstore, he had an energetic partner.

Narzyński campaigned for the ecumenical cooperation of the Polish Lutherans with the Lutheran churches in Europe . He was particularly interested in the changes in the churches of the West German EKD . In 1984 he and the then President of the Evangelical Church in Hesse and Nassau , Helmut Hild , dedicated a foreword to a German-Polish book on the reconciliation efforts of West German and Polish Lutherans.

Janusz Narzyński was a member of the Christian Peace Conference (CFK), at whose V. and VI. All-Christian Peace Assembly (ACFV) he was involved in 1978 and 1985 in Prague. The VI. ACFV also elected him to their continuation committee.

Narzyński was married to Barbara Enholc-Narzyńska. He died on his 92nd birthday.
