Janusz Jagucki (born February 14, 1947 in Sorkwity ( German  Sorquitten ), VR Poland ) is a Polish Lutheran theologian and was the leading bishop of the Evangelical Augsburg Church in Poland from 2001 to 2009 .

Life

Janusz Jagucki is a son of the Lutheran pastor Alfred Jagucki. After studying theology at the Christian Theological Academy in Warsaw , he was ordained pastor on November 22, 1970 by then Bishop Andrzej Wantuła .

From 1971 to 1973 he was vicar of the Lutheran parish in Giżycko (Lötzen) and from 1973 to 1976 parish administrator. From May 1976 he became pastor in Giżycko . In addition, he was the parish administrator of the parishes in Ełk (Lyck) , Suwałki (Sudauen) and Ryn (Rhine b. Lötzen) , as well as an employee of the Order of St. John in the diocese of Masuria and a member of the Church Synod .

On Epiphany Day (January 6th) in 2001, Janusz Jagucki was introduced to Warsaw as Bishop of the Evangelical Augsburg Church and successor to Jan Szarek .

It was later revealed that he had worked for the Polish secret service from 1973 to 1990 reporting on his parishioners. At the synod of the Evangelical Augsburg Church on April 19, 2009, distrust was pronounced against him by 31 votes to 26. In the synod in autumn 2009 Jerzy Samiec was elected as his successor , who took over the office on January 6, 2010.
