Andrzej Wantuła
Andrzej Wantuła (born November 26, 1905 in Ustroń , Austria-Hungary , † June 15, 1976 in Warsaw , VR Poland ) was a Lutheran theologian and bishop of the Evangelical-Augsburg Church in Poland .
Career
Andrzej Wantuła began studying at the Evangelical Theological Faculty of the University of Warsaw in 1925 . After graduation, he studied in France for some time . On October 25, 1931, he was ordained a pastor in the Peter and Paul Church in Vistula .
On October 25, 1936, he married Julia Blasbalg in Ustroń .
During the Second World War , Andrzej Wantuła was sent to the Mauthausen - Gusen concentration camp in Austria, but survived this period and emigrated to London . In 1948 he returned to his Polish homeland. From 1954 to 1956 he was Vice-Rector of the Christian Theological Academy in Warsaw. On May 2, 1959, the Church Synod elected him Bishop of the Evangelical-Augsburg Church in Poland . He held this office until he retired on April 6, 1976.
Other functions / offices
Andrzej Wantuła was Vice President of the Lutheran World Federation (LWF) in Geneva from 1963 to 1970 and for many years chairman of the Polish Ecumenical Council . Wantula was a member of the Christian Peace Conference .
