Location in Saxony-Anhalt

Demker is a district of the town of Tangerhütte in the south of the Stendal district in Saxony-Anhalt .

geography

The place in the southeast of the Altmark lies between Stendal and Tangerhütte, in the valley of the Tangier river . The districts Bahnhof Demker and Elversdorf still belonged to the former municipality of Demker .

history

Demker appears for the first time as Demeke in a document in 1238 , the churches in Demker and Elversdorf also date from this time. Elversdorf - originally laid out as a Wendish Rundling - was mentioned as early as 1022.

As early as 1849 Demker was connected to the railway network via the Magdeburg – Wittenberge line.

On September 30, 1928 was Gutsbezirk Demker associated with the rural community Demker.

On July 1, 1950, the previously independent municipality of Elversdorf was incorporated.

On May 31, 2010 Demker merged with the other municipalities of the Tangerhütte-Land administrative community to form the new town of Tangerhütte.

Not only as part of the village renewal program , the village community center has been redesigned, sidewalks laid out and street lighting renovated in recent years.

Voluntary fire brigade groups and sports clubs (bowling, football) determine village life, which also includes the traditional Easter and autumn fires and the village festival.

politics

Local councilor and mayor

Demker has a joint local council with Elversdorf.

Petra Fischer is the local mayor.

coat of arms

The coat of arms was approved by the district on July 3, 2008.

Blazon : "Split of silver and red over a blue corrugated shield base, in front two red roses with golden clusters and red sepals in front of stalks, behind three golden ears, two silver waves in the shield base."

The colors of the place are - derived from the color of the main motif and the tincture of the sign - white-red.

The former municipal council of Demker decided in April 2008 to apply for the coat of arms shown here as a guide from several proposals by the Magdeburg local heraldist Jörg Mantzsch that were under discussion . Its symbols and colors are explained as follows:

The two heraldic roses go back to the coat of arms of those von Arnstedt, who as landowners had a decisive influence on Demker's development for over 500 years. As landlords and patrons of the church, they guided and promoted the social life of the community in a decisive manner for many generations. Her coat of arms had three roses in the diagonally split shield (see illustration of the coat of arms version according to Gotha Adelslexikon 1942), two of which are borrowed. There are three different sources on the coat of arms , Siebmacher's Wappenbuch, the New Prussian Adelslexicon by Freiherr Leopold von Zedlitz and Neukirch from 1842 and the Gotha Adelslexikon from 1942, which show different images.

The Tangier is a river which, as a water vein, was certainly a reason for settlement and subsequent management in early and prehistory. Demker and Elversdorf are verifiably places of Slavic founding and it is known that the Slavs liked to settle on the water that they used for fishing. Tangier is symbolically represented by the wavy base of the shield.

The ears of wheat are due to the fact that agriculture has been the predominant economic basis for the inhabitants of Demker for countless generations. In addition to keeping small animals, arable farming was carried out. Before the introduction of the potato, this was mainly the cultivation of grain. This fact is expressed by the three ears of corn, which are generally considered to be grain without a specific genus.
