Weißewarte Church (October 2018)
|
Weißewarte is a district of the town of Tangerhütte in the south of the Stendal district in the Altmark region in Saxony-Anhalt .
geography
The place in the southeast of the Altmark lies between Tangerhütte and Tangermünde and is completely surrounded by forest. To the north of Weißewarte, numerous spring streams unite to form the Tangier River , which flows into the Elbe a few kilometers away . The area around the place is mostly flat and slopes slightly to the north to Tangier.
history
A long time ago there were two waiting areas in the church - one red and one white. The village was named after the second observation point. Both towers, however, were completely razed. Before the war began, the Wehrmacht operated a glider airfield on the edge of the village. Immediately to the south-west of Weißewarte, an area was used as the workplace of the Burg Aviation School from May 1940. The main users, however, were the paratrooper replacement units that were located here, such as the 1945 parachute grenade launcher training battalion, which was used during Operation Plunder and Varsity near Hamminkeln . Some of the foundations of the accommodations and the entrance areas as well as the shooting range are still available at the edge of the forest. After the war, Weißewarte belonged to the US sector, but was shortly handed over to the Soviet occupation forces.
On May 31, 2010, Weißewarte merged with the other municipalities of the Tangerhütte-Land administrative community to form the new town of Tangerhütte.

coat of arms
The coat of arms was approved on January 30, 1995 by the Magdeburg Regional Council.
Blazon : “In red, a silver tinned tower growing out of the base of the shield with two open windows one above the other; in the head of the shield in silver a five-fold branched red wood trunk. "
The colors of the place are red - silver (white).
The coat of arms is a "talking coat of arms". The tower shown is a reminder of a watchtower (control room) that no longer exists on the south side of the village. This control room was called “wiette warde” (white control room), belonged to Tangermünde Castle and gave the place that was later created its name. The Heraldic Society "Black Lion" Leipzig designed the coat of arms and registered it in the Quedlinburg coat of arms under QWR II / 90007 on February 25, 1990.
