Cobbel is a district of the town of Tangerhütte in the south of the Stendal district in Saxony-Anhalt .
geography
The place is in the southeast of the Altmark , about 25 km south of the district town of Stendal . It is agricultural, in particular characterized by asparagus cultivation .
history
Cobbel was first mentioned in a document in 1285 in a deed of donation, already under the current place name. However, the place is already documented in an inventory of the Abbey in Corvey from the years 1053-1071, in 1136 the area belonged to the Cistercian monastery Mariental . In 1375 Cobbel was 503 hectares and was cultivated by seven Kossats . In 1448 the place belonged to the Uetz manor . The village fell completely victim to the Thirty Years War , so that it briefly became a desert . From 1691 to 1785 Cobbel was owned by the Baron von der Schulenburg auf Kehnert . At the time, Cobbel had 290 residents and about 900 hectares of land. The place was completely destroyed by a major fire in 1824. After the rapid reconstruction, it grew again to 332 inhabitants by 1842. In 1864 there were 465 inhabitants, compared to 416 in the 1890 census.
On May 31, 2010, Cobbel merged with the other municipalities of the Tangerhütte-Land administrative community to form the new town of Tangerhütte.
The local history of the surrounding communities tells us that asparagus was imported and cultivated by the French at the time of the Napoleonic occupation at the beginning of the 19th century. The loose and sandy soil in the area offered excellent conditions for this. Traditional crops such as potatoes, grain and beets, on the other hand, only brought moderate yield. Many farmers therefore cultivated asparagus very intensively - this is still the case in Cobbel today. Growing asparagus has remained a laborious and physically demanding job until recently. The development of the so-called asparagus spider , with which the earth was piled up around the asparagus plants, brought relief . This device was developed in Cobbel and used for a long time until it replaced more modern machines.

coat of arms
Blazon : "Divided by green over silver, above a silver asparagus spider (device for cultivating the soil) with a black chain, below, horizontally one below the other, four green asparagus spears with heads pointing to the left."
Cobbel did not have an officially approved coat of arms until 2001 and had undertaken several attempts to design the local coat of arms, which were rejected by the state government.
The Cobbel municipal council decided to include the asparagus spider and four asparagus stalks as symbols in the municipal coat of arms. The heraldic implementation and incorporation into the approval process was carried out by the Magdeburg municipal heraldist Jörg Mantzsch .
The local colors are silver (white) - green.
flag
The flag of the former municipality of Cobbel was white and green striped (hoisted flag: vertical stripes, cross flag: horizontal stripes) with the coat of arms of the municipality.
Culture and sights
One church is already occupied for 1375. Like all of Cobbel, she too went up in the flames of the village fire of 1824. The subsequent construction of the church from 1829, which has been preserved to this day, is structured by pilaster strips and cornices . In 1966 the interior of the church was restored.
Economy and Infrastructure
Regular buses and on-call buses run by Regionalverkehrsbetriebe Westsachsen (RVW) under the brand name stendalbus .
Horse sanctuary and sanctuary
The interest group Leisure with Horses and Horse Protection eV runs a horse farm in Cobbel. The farm accepts horses that are in need, mistreated, overwhelmed in sport or on their way to the butcher. The open stable has four gates, two of which are always open depending on the weather or the incidence of wind. At the moment 15 horses of different breeds live there. Through species-appropriate horse keeping and horse-friendly handling behavior, disturbed, traumatized horses are made sociable. Old horses can spend their twilight years there.
Personalities
In 1733 the theologian and writer Friedrich Ernst Vorberg (1733–1808) was born in Cobbel.
