Trinity Church Rawicz

The Trinity Church is a Protestant church, now a Roman Catholic church building in Rawicz (Greater Poland).

history

A first previous building for the predominantly German-speaking Protestants in Rawicz was built in 1639 in half-timbered construction, but burned in 1707. The next church, built in 1724, burned in 1801 in the major fire in the town of Rawitsch.

Today's Dreifaltigkeitskirche was designed by Carl Gotthard Langhans in 1802 and built by the Poznań master builder Krause 1803-1808. The building fell victim to the flames in 1915 and was rebuilt in 1917. Until 1918 it belonged to the ecclesiastical province of Posen of the Evangelical Church in Prussia , after the First World War it belonged to the Uniate Evangelical Church in Poland . After the Second World War it was taken over by the Archdiocese of Poznan and in 1976 elevated to the parish church of St. Andreas Bobola .

The church was built on a rectangular plan. The rectangular tower with a round drum carries an eight-column lantern with a dome-shaped roof. The hipped roof over the church building is covered with roof tiles.

The main facade, which forms the base of the tower, is dominated by an arcade supported by two Tuscan columns .

The windows in the side facades are rectangular, divided into two floors, above them there are semicircular windows of the upper gallery floor. There are three mosaic windows in the altar wall. In the oval interior with a domed vault there are two gallery floors. The ground floor is surrounded by square pillars supporting 16 Ionic columns with gilded capitals. The second gallery is supported by the outer walls.

The church was registered on June 1, 1968 under 375 / Wlkp / A in the register of architectural monuments of the Greater Poland Voivodeship ( województwo wielkopolskie ).
