The village church Schleuss is the Protestant church of the town Tangerhütte belonging village Schleuss in the Altmark in Saxony-Anhalt in Germany . It belongs to the Stendal parish of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .

Architecture and history

The relatively small church, built from field stones on a rectangular floor plan , is of Romanesque origin. It originated in the first half of the 13th century. The patronage rights were from 1551 with the University of Frankfurt, later with the University of Breslau . There was originally a bell gable on the west wall of the church . In 1664 a church tower was added to the west wall, which also included the bell gable. Two walled-up ogival niches can still be seen from the former bell gable. This half-timbered tower was renewed in 1793 because of its dilapidation, both on its half-timbered structure and on the half-timbered brickwork. A year later the church roof was repaired. The windows were enlarged at the end of the 17th century.

In 1912, a small groin-vaulted choir was added to the east side of the nave . At the same time, the windows and the west portal were renewed. The west portal received a brick frame. At the same time, wooden beams were clad. Another renovation of the roof took place in 1967.

Interior design

The interior of the church is provided with a flat wooden beam ceiling, which dates back to 1694 according to an applied year. In the church there was a baroque pulpit altar created by Hans Ludike in 1754 , of which only the pulpit with strong carvings has survived . Other parts such as the sound cover and remains of acanthus carvings are in the attic of the church. The church stalls are from 1912.
