history

The Slavic place name (in German "place in the meadows") indicates a settlement as early as 750-800. Colbitz was first mentioned in 1197, when Ludolf von Colbitz appeared as a witness at the Ebendorf district court. The state sovereignty changed from Alten Mark to the Archdiocese of Magdeburg in the 14th century . Territorially, the area belonged to the County of Billingshoch. This was a part of the Nordmark, in which Albrecht the Bear from the house of Askanien had been the margrave since 1134. From there he operated the colonization in the east and thus made the North Mark the starting point of the Mark Brandenburg. Therefore, from the 14th century, the name Altmark became common for this area. But when the Ascanian margraves died out in 1320 and the Altmark came to Duke Otto of Braunschweig through the marriage of the widow of the last margrave and all kinds of quarrels ensued, these parts were finally acquired by the archbishopric in 1336. Further documented reports about Colbitz come from this time.

Lindhorst was forcibly incorporated on July 1, 1950. From 1994 to 2009, Lindhorst was a town according to Section 86 of the municipal code.
