Zielitz is a municipality in the Börde district in Saxony-Anhalt ( Germany ). She is a member of the Elbe-Heide community .
history
Zielitz was mentioned for the first time in 937 in a deed of donation to the Magdeburg Moritzkloster under the name "Zelici", which derived from Slavic means something like homestead or residence. In 1320 Arnold von Sack sold the village of Zielitz to St. Katharina's monastery in neighboring Wolmirstedt , where it remained until 1810. The Thirty Years' War (1618–1648) and the plague spread of 1636 caused the population to decline sharply.
After the battle of Jena and Auerstedt in 1806 until the Wars of Liberation in 1813–1815, Zielitz was occupied by French troops. After the construction of the Magdeburg – Wittenberge railway line in 1848/49, Zielitz only got a stop in 1890 and a train station in 1913. After the first discoveries of potash around 1905, well drilling began, but had to be stopped for lack of money.
On July 1, 1950, the village of Schricke was incorporated into Zielitz. Exploratory drilling from 1961–1964 led to the decision to build a potash plant in 1963. The Zielitz potash plant has been in operation since 1973. In 1993 the plant became part of the K + S group and is now one of the largest employers in the region. The place has grown significantly due to the potash mining . The number of inhabitants has multiplied.
The Zielitz gains in potash seam Ronnenberg from 500 to 1300 m depth each year 12 million tons of crude potassium salt, which is treated by flotation and hot dissolving to potash fertilizers and industrial salts for the chemical industry. With around 1700 employees, it is now one of the largest employers in the region.
The potash deposit at the Zielitz site is considered to be one of the most valuable in Germany due to its high content of potassium chloride and its high thickness. In terms of the amount of crude salt production, the Zielitz potash plant is one of the largest potash plants worldwide.

coat of arms
The coat of arms was approved on October 25, 1999 by the Magdeburg Regional Council.
Blazon : “Divided by green over silver; above a three-furrow silver plow, below a black miner's toe . "
Zielitz has an officially approved coat of arms from 1937, but this coat of arms has not been demonstrably used, so that its symbolism is largely unknown. In 1987, on the occasion of the 1050th anniversary of the town, a new coat of arms was adopted and has been used ever since. This coat of arms refers to the historical roots of the community as a farming village (plow), but ties in with the potash mining that has dominated and shaped the place for decades (miners toughness).
It is the resolution of the municipality of Zielitz to keep the coat of arms symbolism of plow and miner's tools in the shield colors green - silver (white), which has been a habit for decades, and to have it officially approved. The graphics of the coat of arms and its symbols have only been adapted to heraldic customs.
The community colors are white and green.
The coat of arms was designed by the Magdeburg heraldist Jörg Mantzsch .
Historical coat of arms
The coat of arms was awarded on July 29, 1937 by the President of the Province of Saxony.
Blazon : "In red a silver straightening wheel, the rim of which has broken off at the top, overlaid with a silver sword with a gold handle and crossguard."
Old seals of the community (impressions from 1874) show Saint Catherine and Saint Pankratius, the titular saints of the monastery in Wolmirstedt, to which the place belonged from 1320–1810. The new coat of arms was created from the symbols of the two saints, the wheel of Catherine and the sword of Pankratius.
The coat of arms was designed by the Magdeburg State Archives Councilor Otto Korn .
