history
Incorporations
On January 1, 2010, the previously independent communities Bertingen, Mahlwinkel and Wenddorf were incorporated. The district of Zibberick, which then belonged to Mahlwinkel, became a district of Angern with equal rights. The partially private company DHL -Deutsche-Post does not accept this regional reform in 2019 either, so Angern has two postcodes and the problem of the non-existent district of Zibberick, as it was a district of Mahlwinkel before the reform , which is now only a district of Angern itself is.
Place name
The toponymic meaning of the place name is not fully understood. The place name probably refers to the word Anger , which means something like meadow ground.

coat of arms
The coat of arms was approved by the district on March 22, 2010.
Blazon : “Square of red and silver; Field 1: on silver water a silver swan with outstretched wings, Field 2: a green oak leaf with a green acorn on each handle on both sides, Field 3: a sitting red squirrel, gnawing at a green acorn held in its front paws, Field 4 : a silver millstone on the right, lying on the long leg of a silver square, the angle turned left and down, the square below is equipped with 3 staggered silver ears on the stalk, the lower ear with a leaf. "
At its constituent meeting on January 25, 2010, the council of the municipality of Angern decided to create the coat of arms from elements of the coats of arms of the four districts. The swan comes from Angern and is a symbol of light due to its immaculate white. The squirrel is the Bertinger mascot at the annual village festival and appears in their local coat of arms. Millstones with ears of corn and a square measure are borrowed from the so-called talking coat of arms of Mahlwinkel. The village of Wenddorf, which is surrounded by oak trees, donates the oak leaf with two acorns for the new municipal coat of arms.
The coat of arms was designed by the Magdeburg municipal heraldist Jörg Mantzsch .
- Coat of arms of the district of Angern
The coat of arms was approved on April 24, 1996 by the Magdeburg Regional Council.
Blazon : "In red over a silver shield base, topped with a red three-petalled rose with red sepals and a silver seed pod, on blue water a silver swan."
The flag is striped red - white - red (1: 4: 1) (horizontal shape: stripes running horizontally, lengthways shape: stripes running vertically) and centered with the municipal coat of arms.
History of the district of Angern
The establishment of the place is not supported by written certificates. The first written mention of the place comes from the 14th century. Nonetheless, the area was already settled in the Neolithic Age, as numerous archaeological finds bear testimony to. The first settlements in the area were established by the fishing rods.
The origin of the von Angern family, who derives their name from this place, has been certified for the years from 1160 onwards. So a Theodoric of Angern is mentioned of the Margrave Albrecht the Bear in the Altmark to have come. The name of a Heinrich von Angern appears in the written records of the Hillersleben monastery around 1217 .
The place Angern was long part of the dispute between the Margraves of Brandenburg and the Archdiocese of Magdeburg . In 1336, Margrave Ludwig I of Brandenburg renounced several localities, including Angern, which no longer belonged to the Brandenburg Altmark, but to the Archdiocese of Magdeburg. The dispute was on November 12, 1449 in the Zinnaischen comparison between Elector Friedrich II of Brandenburg , called the Iron and Friedrich III. Count von Beichlingen and Archbishop of Magdeburg settled and the boundary definition of 1336 confirmed. The archbishop's monastery in Magdeburg renounced the Altmark, but secured the claims in some places, including the village of Angern.
The village of Angern was hardly mentioned until the first Lutheran church visit from 1562 to 1564, if only in connection with the castle or the Angern palace. The first records begin in 1558, when 56 families lived in the village.
During the Thirty Years War , the village was severely devastated several times by troops passing through. The place hardly recovered from the war damage. During the war against France in 1806, Angern was only attacked by Prussian and French troops. After the Peace of Tilsit in 1807 all areas west of the Elbe belonged to the Kingdom of Westphalia . An administration based on the French model was set up and Angern was assigned to the canton of Rogätz in the Elbe department . With the reforms of the new government, freedom of trade was made possible, the serfdom of the peasants abolished, the separation of powers and the civil code introduced.
In 1887 Angern was connected to the Magdeburg – Wittenberge railway line . In 1907 street names were established.
Castle and chateau
As early as 1341, Archbishop Otto , Landgrave of Hesse, had a castle with an artificial moat built by Magdeburg in Angern, which is believed to have been built on the foundations of a previous building.
However, the moated castle changed hands several times. In 1343 it belonged to a Gerlof von Brunhorcz. From 1363 the lord of the castle Lüdecke von Grieben is in the feudal possession of Angern. He was not a member of the important noble family of the same name, the von Grieben, but a vassal of the same and, as was customary at the time, had adopted their name. In 1370 Lüdecke von Grieben and two sons of the knight Jakob von Eichendorf are enfeoffed with the place Angern. From 1373 knight Gebhard von Alvensleben , also called von Klötzen, was feudal lord in Angern. He made a name for himself mainly through robberies on Magdeburg merchants. In 1382 Magdeburg citizens besieged the castle in Angern until Gebhard von Alvensleben ceded the castle to them for 400 silver marks . Friedrich Graf von Hoym and Archbishop of Magdeburg requested Angern Castle as a fief of the Archbishopric. But it was not until 1384 that Angern Castle was handed over by the city of Magdeburg to the new Archbishop Albrecht IV for a payment of 900 silver marks.
The castle was badly damaged so that the archbishop had to have the house renovated. In the following time, the castle was repeatedly sold as a pledge and thus changed hands. After the renovation, the Archbishop pledged the Angern house to Hermann von Standorf , from whom it was redeemed in 1391. In 1392 Angern was pledged to Henning von Rengerslage for an amount of 800 Bohemian guilders . Archbishop Günter II. Count von Schwarzburg redeemed the house in 1403 from the brothers Albrecht and Cuno von Rengerslage. In 1411 the house was given to Sander von Hemmersdorf (or Alexander von Hermstorf) as a pledge. In 1424 he passed the house on to Margarethe and Dietrich von Czerwst (also Diether von Zerbst) and the Ritter brothers Bernhard (also Barndt) and Werner von der Schulenburg in exchange for 400 Rhenish guilders .
In 1448 Angern Castle was finally entrusted to the brothers Busso, Bernd and Matthias (also Matthies) von der Schulenburg by a letter of feud from Archbishop Friedrich III, Count of Beichlingen, “as a right male fief”. The von Zerbst family was settled with money and Archbishop Friedrich III. Magdeburg advanced large sums for his buildings in Giebichenstein and Wolmirstedt . Despite the various divisions of the von der Schulenburg family, Schloss and Grund Angern remained in the family's possession for almost five hundred years until 1947.
In 1763, the moated castle was built by Friedrich August Fiedler on behalf of Christoph Daniel von der Schulenburg (1679–1763) .
From 1949 to 1990 an agricultural vocational school was housed in the castle. In 1997 the von der Schulenburg family acquired the castle again.
The cultural monuments located in the municipality are entered in the local register of monuments.
