history

The place name Bertigge has been handed down from 1225, but the area around the village was settled much earlier, which is indicated by excavation finds. Due to the frequent flooding of the Elbe, which swings to the east from the south near Bertingen, the square of the village complex was rebuilt at its current location in the 16th century (the church was built in 1571). Until the 19th century it was towing on this same section necessary (still remembers the landscape name Treuel it).

During the Thirty Years War , many of the surrounding villages became desolate . Bertingen was gradually repopulated after three fireplaces were left.

An old post road led through Bertingen to Kehnert (preserved quarter milestone), an army road led past the community to the west.

Polish, French and Soviet prisoners were housed in Bertingen during the Second World War . Even in the last days of the war, numerous concentration camp prisoners were killed who were driven through the village in the direction of Mahlwinkel .

After the war, the population increased due to many refugees. From 1957 to 2005 the population decreased by a third.

During the GDR times, the central pioneer camp " Friedrich Engels " was built and maintained by VEB Magdeburger Armaturenwerk .

On January 1, 2010, the previously independent municipalities of Bertingen, Mahlwinkel and Wenddorf merged with the municipality of Angern to form the new municipality of Angern.
