history

In 1145 Ummendorf appears for the first time in a deed of ownership. The holdings of the Berge monastery (near Magdeburg ) in Ummendorf were confirmed by Pope Lucius II .

At the end of the 12th century, the village was owned by the von Ummendorf family who built the original Ummendorf Castle during this period . In the 15th century the castle belonged to the von Veltheim family for a few years , who later emerged as robber barons and were driven out by the Magdeburgers in 1430.

From the middle of the 15th century the von Meyendorff family ruled , who built today's castle around the preserved tower in the middle of the 16th century.

In 1553 Andreas I von Meyendorff called Wolfgang Kropf as the first Protestant pastor to Ummendorf. In the years 1556 to 1566, the village church Ummendorf was extensively rebuilt on behalf of the lord of the castle, Andreas I. von Meyendorff. Meanwhile, a sexton school was founded in 1564 and the introduction of compulsory schooling for boys by Andreas I. von Meyendorff.

In 1667 the line of the von Meyendorff family dies out in Ummendorf.

The castle was conquered by Wallenstein during the Thirty Years War . In the 17th century Ummendorf was again owned by the von Veltheim family .

Due to the provisions of the Peace of Westphalia , the former archbishopric fell to the Electorate of Brandenburg. Ummendorf thus became an electoral domain.

politics

Ummendorf is the smallest independent member community of the Obere Aller community (with almost 1000 inhabitants). A citizens' initiative, the Ummendorfer Bürgerforum eV, has existed since 1990 and has been consistently represented in the local council since then. There has also been a CDU parliamentary group since 1990. A parliamentary group made up of Ummendorfer Sportfreunde was represented until the 2009 election. The interest in political participation was always secured by sufficient candidates for municipal council elections. The first mayor of Ummendorf after the fall of the Wall was Erhard Pötzsch (member of the Ummendorfer Bürgerforum eV). Reinhard Falke then became mayor of the Ummendorf community. The various factions always worked together as partners and in the interests of the village. As a result, numerous successes were achieved (e.g. in village renewal competitions).

coat of arms

The coat of arms was approved on August 10, 1995 by the Magdeburg Regional Council.

Blazon : "Split, in front in blue a silver swan at the crack with a red beak and red webbed foot, at the back seven times divided from silver over blue, in each of the blue bars a row of fallen silver monkshood stake."

It was designed on the basis of a coat of arms used by those of Ummendorf at the beginning of the 13th century .
