City of Seehausen is a district of the city of Wanzleben-Börde in the Börde district in Saxony-Anhalt .

geography

Seehausen in the Magdeburger Börde is not far from the Aller Quellen in a hilly area that goes west to the Hohen Holz up to 209 m above sea level. NN rises ( Edelberg ). The city got its name after the lake to the west.

history

Seehausen was first mentioned in 966. In the Middle Ages there was a county between Ohre and Bode around Seehausen, where there was a Thingstätte . It was in 1052 by Heinrich III. ceded to the diocese of Halberstadt . The diocese had the county administered first by the Counts of Sommerschenburg , then by Counts von Groitzsch . Then the bishops administered the county themselves until 1253. Bishop Ludolf ceded the county in 1253 to the margraves Johann I and Otto III. Ludolf's successor, Bishop Volrad, denied the cession of the county to the margraves in 1257 and instead sold it to Bishop Rudolf von Magdeburg , who in 1259 granted the margrave feudal rights to Alvensleben Castle .

Seehausen was referred to as a city as early as 1197. However, due to a shift in through traffic, the city shrank to a patch . Since 1680 the place belonged to the Brandenburg-Prussian Duchy of Magdeburg and was in the then Holzkreis . It was not until 1695 that Seehausen was granted city rights. Because of the fertile soil ( Magdeburger Börde ), a large part of the population was active in agriculture and sheep breeding as well as in the wool trade. In 1836 one of the first sugar factories in Germany was built in Seehausen. In 1896 the city was connected to the railway network.

In 1977 the Seehausen community association was founded. From 1993 until its dissolution on December 31, 2009, Seehausen was part of the “Börde” administrative association.

On January 1, 2010, the previously independent town of Seehausen merged with the communities of Bottmersdorf , Domersleben , Dreileben , Eggenstedt , Groß Rodensleben , Hohendodeleben , Klein Rodensleben and the town of Wanzleben to form the new town of Wanzleben-Börde.

On July 1, 2014, the new municipal constitutional law of the state of Saxony-Anhalt came into force. In its §14 (2) the municipalities are given the opportunity to assign this designation to the districts that were towns before the incorporation. The city of Wanzleben-Börde has made use of this regulation. The relevant amendment to their main statutes came into force in 2015. In Sections 1 (2) and 16 (1) the districts and localities are listed with their official names.

Historical coat of arms

Blazon : "In gold a standing knight in steel-colored armor, in his right hand a sword with the blade pointing upwards, at his feet a silver shield with a red water lily with two green leaves inside."

The coat of arms of this place comes from the time of the city development, which lasted from the 14th to the 17th century. The coat of arms, the water lily, is reminiscent of the large lake in Seehausen, which obviously gave the place its name. The knight as a shield holder is probably the symbolic protector of the city.

Paulskirche

The oldest church on the Magdeburg Börde , the Paulskirche, is located in Seehausen . It is a station on the Romanesque Road . Bishop Hildgruen von Halberstadt probably had the church built on a hill in 830. It was first mentioned in a document in 1148 and has been preserved intact to this day. The church has only one nave, which is as wide as the west tower.

Laurentiuskirche

The Protestant church “St. Laurentius “is a hall church with a short nave. The tower was added in 1511. Later there were modifications. In 1974 the dilapidated roof structure of the nave was torn down. After the "turning point" there was renovation work. In 2012 a new roof was installed on the nave.
