Romanesque Road
The Romanesque Road runs as a holiday route through Saxony-Anhalt in Germany . The Romanesque Road is part of the Transromanica , which includes stops in Germany (Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia ), France , Italy , Austria , Portugal , Serbia , Slovakia and Spain . In 2006 the Transromanica was named a European Cultural Route by the Council of Europe .
history
The idea to create the road came up in 1991 and was implemented in 1993. The reason for this was the large number of Romanesque buildings from the Middle Ages in Saxony-Anhalt with its central location in Germany. According to the initiators, one million people visit facilities on the Romanesque Road every year.
course
The Romanesque Road runs in the shape of an eight, with the state capital Magdeburg in the center . The street connects the cathedrals, castles, monasteries and churches that were built between the 10th and the middle of the 13th century and thus represent a sign of Christianization . The total length of the route is around 1200 kilometers. There are 80 Romanesque objects in 65 locations on it.
