history

In a register of the tithe of the Hersfeld monastery ( Hersfeld tithe list ), which was created between 881 and 899, Seeburg is named as a place of tenancy, Seoburc im Friesenfeld . The first section, which is dated from 830 to 850, contains the place, the second section the castle, so that both are over 1,100 years old.

The dispute is still not finally resolved whether Seeburg is also the castle in Saxony mentioned for the years 743, 744 and 748, whose name variety (Franconian Reichsannalen: Hoohseoburg , Einhards Annalen: Hohseoburg , Metzer Annalen: Hocsioburg, Hocseburgh , Reginos Chronik: Hocseoburch ) offers many possibilities of interpretation. Since Seeburg was centrally located in the Hosgau - at the interface between its north and south area - and it was called Hohsegowe when it was first mentioned , a connection between Gau and castle names has been assumed. Archaeological excavations have not revealed any evidence of a castle from the eighth century and today the Hünenburg near Watenstedt is more likely to be considered. (More details in the article about Seeburg Castle (Hassegau) .)

However, these soil examinations revealed the old size of the castle: it reached from today's village church, the St. Nicolai church in the east, to the western tip of the peninsula on which the present-day castle is located. In the castle there was a Romanesque chapel in the west, which was elevated to the provost church of St. Petrus and Lambert in the Middle Ages and is preserved today as an inconspicuous Romanesque sacred building, a Gothic castle church in the central part, and today's village church in the western outer bailey, the " Fleckenkirche “St. Nikolaus. With the castle chapel, Seeburg therefore has four sacred buildings. It can be assumed that it was a stain . At times the Seeburg was the seat of a separate family of counts of Querfurt origin, from which u. a. the founder of the monastery Kaltenborn Wichmann I. von Seeburg, and his grandson, the Archbishop of Magdeburg Wichmann von Seeburg come from.

On July 1, 1950, the previously independent municipality of Rollsdorf was incorporated.

Administrative structure

On January 1, 2010, the previously independent municipalities of Seeburg, Amsdorf , Aseleben , Erdeborn , Hornburg , Lüttchendorf , Neehausen , Röblingen am See , Stedten and Wansleben am See merged to form the lake district of Mansfelder Land. At the same time, the administrative community Seegebiet Mansfelder Land , to which Seeburg belonged, was dissolved.

Seeburg Castle

See main article: Seeburg Castle

The old people's and refugee castle Seeburg was already mentioned in 743 in the Metz annals of the Franconian Empire as "Hochseeburg". The castle was the main castle of the Hassegau. It then served as a medieval count's castle and Renaissance palace. After falling into disrepair in the 19th century, the impressive fortifications were rebuilt in picturesque surroundings in the 1920s.

Economy and Infrastructure

traffic

To the federal highway 80 , which connects Eisleben and Halle (Saale) , it is approx. 600 meters south. Its predecessor, the F 80, used to lead directly through the villages and thus also through Seeburg and Rollsdorf. It is part of the Chaussee Berlin – Halle – Kassel built in the 1820s and was often called Eislebener Chaussee in the section between Halle and Eisleben . A chausseehaus , which is a listed building, has been preserved in the Rollsdorf district . This also applies to the milestones east ( half milestone ) and southwest ( quarter milestone ) of Seeburg.

The federal motorway 38 , the so-called Südharzautobahn, exit Lutherstadt Eisleben, can be reached via the B 80 after about 9 kilometers.
