Hornburg is a district of the lake district Mansfelder Land in the district of Mansfeld-Südharz in Saxony-Anhalt and is located around 8 km south-southeast of Eisleben not far from the B 180 .

The two small villages of Äbtischrode and Holzzelle belonged to the former municipality of Hornburg . The latter emerged from a former Benedictine monastery and can be reached via a separate exit from the B 180 .

history

In a register of the tithe of the Hersfeld monastery , which was created between 881 and 899, Hornburg is mentioned for the first time in a document as Hornberc im Friesenfeld, which is subject to a tenancy requirement .

On January 1, 2010, the previously independent municipalities of Hornburg, Amsdorf , Aseleben , Erdeborn , Lüttchendorf , Neehausen , Röblingen am See , Seeburg , Stedten and Wansleben am See merged to form the lake district of Mansfelder Land. At the same time, the administrative community Seegebiet Mansfelder Land , to which Hornburg belonged, was dissolved.
