Location of Volkmaritz in Saxony-Anhalt

Volkmaritz is part of Neehausen , a district of the lake district Mansfelder Land in the district of Mansfeld-Südharz in Saxony-Anhalt . East lies the conservation area Laweketal .

history

Historically, Volkmaritz was the main town for Neehausen, Elbitz and today's Wehlitz desert . The Romanesque Volkmaritzer Bonifatius Church was the mother church for the Neehauser Nikolai Church.

Ever since pastor Otto Kleinschmidt (1870–1954), who worked in Volkmaritz from 1899 to 1910, had the large parsonage built north of the church, Volkmaritz also served as the seat of the Dederstedt parish office .

The manor house , built in 1903, dominates the center of the village and served as a cultural center during the GDR era and is now a guest house. The school built in 1906, which later served as village consumption , has meanwhile been demolished.

On July 1, 1950, Volkmaritz was incorporated into Neehausen .
