history

Castle

The predecessor building of the castle is a castle, which was first mentioned in the Hersfeld tithe list from 881 to 899 . In 1041 the sons of Count Palatine Friedrich I , the later Archbishop Adalbert of Hamburg-Bremen and the Count Palatine Dedo and Friedrich II. Had the castle demolished and a Benedictine monastery built, which was consecrated by Adalbert of Bremen in 1053. The castle was the ancestral seat of the Saxon count palatine .

Castle Church

Of the monastery church, consecrated in 1053, the eastern parts (transept with crossing and choir) including the crypt are still preserved today. In place of the nave, built in the 13th century, is today's castle, built from 1609 under Bernhard von Pölnitz . The church has been renovated since 1997 and was again in excellent condition in 2014.

Monastery and manor

As a result of the Reformation in 1540, the monastery was secularized and converted into a manor. The main building was now called the castle.

The community itself belonged to the Freyburg office of the Thuringian District of the Electorate of Saxony . The villages of Goseck, Dobichau , Kleingräfendorf , Pettstädt , parts of the villages Markröhlitz and Eulau belonged to the Goseck estate ; Lobitzsch was parish .

Georg von Altensee (also Altensehe) († 1565) and his brother Lamprecht von Altensee († 1581) can be verified as the first owners of the manor. In 1594 Franz von Königsmarck was enfeoffed with Goseck, whose wife Katharina b. von Hoym married Chancellor Bernhard von Pölnitz after his death . Both were enfeoffed with Goseck in 1609. During this time, the monastery church was converted into a castle chapel. Bernhard was followed by sons Christian Julius († 1662) and Hans Christoph von Pöl (l) nitz († 1680).

In 1684 Amalie von Pöllnitz born. von Hunigk owned the estate as a widow in the guardianship of her sons Christoph Bernhard and Christian Julius Heinrich. Since both sons were declared dead after a sea voyage in 1698, the estate passed to various heirs, from whom Goseck was left to the senior tax councilor Gottfried Pfitzner († 1732). Other owners were his son Hofrat Jakob Heinrich Pfitzner († 1737) and grandson Gottfried Heinrich Pfitzner († 1758). After his early death, his mother Charlotte Sophie née took over. Lampe († 1776) the estate, which she passed on to her son from her second marriage, Ludwig Wilhelm von Eckhardt.

From 1808 Carolina Christiane von Schönberg , b. von Brandenstein and her three siblings can be proven to be the owners of Goseck. Goseck remained in the possession of the Barons von Brandenstein until 1840. Then Julius Graf von Zech-Burkersroda (1805–1872) acquired Goseck and Uichteritz and later Börln Castle .

Goseck Castle remained in the possession of the Graf von Zech-Burkersroda family until the land reform in 1945 , after which it served temporarily as a granary and then became the “ Arthur Weisbrodtyouth hostel with beds and a polytechnic high school . From 1989 to 1997 the primary school with after-school care was located in the administration building. The Foundation for Palaces, Castles and Gardens of the State of Saxony-Anhalt took over the castle in 1997 and began safeguarding the building.

In autumn 1998 Schloss Goseck eV was founded in the vacant castle. The association is gradually building up the European music and cultural center here and organizing concerts with predominantly early music . There are guest rooms and a castle tavern. In 2006 information rooms for the Goseck solar observatory were opened.
