Pettstadt is a municipality in the south of the Upper Franconian district of Bamberg .

Geographical location

The community is located in the administrative district of Upper Franconia about eight kilometers south of Bamberg at the confluence of the Rauhen Ebrach in the Regnitz .

history

Until the church is planted

Around the year 1070 Pettstadt was first mentioned as a "prayer act", which at that time still belonged to the Amlingstadt parish . The name of the place goes back to the personal name Petto, which was relatively common in the Franconian- Thuringian region around the year 1000 . In 1399 the Pettstadt parish was established. In 1754 the baroque church was built by the architect Johann Jakob Michael Küchel . The place belonged to the cathedral chapter Bamberg of the bishopric Bamberg , which from 1500 was in the Franconian Reichskreis , and came with this at the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss of 1803 like large parts of Franconia to Bavaria (see also history of Franconia ). During the administrative reforms in Bavaria , today's community was created with the community edict of 1818 .

Administrative community

At the beginning of 2002 the community broke away from the administrative community Frensdorf , which was founded in the course of the regional reform in Bavaria , and Pettstadt and Frensdorf have since had their own administrations as unitary communities.

In the period from 1988 to 2018, the municipality grew from 1,400 to 2009 by 609 inhabitants or 43.5%.

According to the census on May 9, 2011, 74.4% of the population are Roman Catholic and 11.6% Evangelical Lutheran. 14.0% have another religion or are non-denominational.

Jochen Hack (Free Voting Association) has been the mayor since 2014. In 2014, he received 53.27% of the votes from two opposing candidates and was re-elected in 2020 with 89.05% of the votes without opposing candidates. His predecessor was Jürgen Schmitt (Free Voting Association). Since 2002 as the successor to Joseph Hack (Free Voting Association) in office, he was re-elected in 2008 with 92.30% of the votes.

Pettstadt ferry

Pettstadt owns a baroque church by the builder Michael Küchel , the parish church of the Birth of Mary.

A specialty of Pettstadt is the “Pettstadter Schmied”, the only greed ferry in Upper Franconia, which runs a little east of the village over the Regnitz. It operates from spring to autumn and is a popular stopover for hiking and cycling trips.

The Pettstadt blacksmith, the master blacksmith Sebastian Schubert, who died in 1910, is a regionally known original. At the turn of the century he is said to have not complied with the request of a gendarmerie patrol to leave the restaurant at an advanced hour. Instead, he replied, "I'll do it as I like." (I do as I like.) The incident was reported. The judge at the Royal Bavarian District Court in Bamberg acquitted the defendants as he did not recognize any offensive or rebellious behavior. From this the saying "Do it like the Pettstadt blacksmith", known in Upper Franconia, developed as an invitation to make independent decisions.

The Strullendorf – Schlüsselfeld railway runs through Pettstadt and still carries goods traffic.

Sports and clubs

Numerous events such as the Pettstadt street festival on the third weekend in July, which is attended by citizens of the entire district, developed from the local club life.

The four largest clubs, the Sportverein Pettstadt (SVP), the Freihand Schützenverein Pettstadt (FSV), the Anglerverein Rauhe Ebrach (ARE) and the Musik- und Gesangverein (MGV) are also nationally successful. Since 2006 there has been a very active fruit and horticultural association (OGV) in the community .
