Unit 9
Aggregat 9 (A9 for short) was the name of a further developed, winged version of the German Aggregat 4 rocket (also known as Vergeltungswaffe 2, V2 for short ), which could not be realized because of the worsening war situation for Germany. A single test start of the winged version was carried out under the designation unit 4b in January 1945. The unit 9 should u. a. used as an upper stage in a two-stage missile with intercontinental range ; The unit 10 should serve as the starting stage . Manned versions were also planned that were to be guided on the target approach.
The aggregate 9 should be 14.18 meters long and have a maximum diameter of 1.65 meters. The take-off mass was set at 16,259 tons. The payload should be 1000 kilograms and it should be possible to move up to 600 km within 17 minutes after take-off.
