Amlingstadt is a district of the Strullendorf municipality in the Bamberg district in Upper Franconia , Bavaria, with around 700 inhabitants.

It is located about seven kilometers southeast of Bamberg on the edge of the main moor forest . The place stretches roughly from west to east along the main road through a valley-shaped area. It has almost 700 inhabitants and is built together with the neighboring town of Wernsdorf . Amlingstadt lies at about 270 m above sea level. NN.

Geographic development

The old town center consists mostly of (former) farms and agricultural buildings along the main road. The place has expanded over the last few decades, especially towards the northern slope, and consists mainly of single-family or small multi-family houses. The highest point of the northern slope also forms the structural boundary of the place. From there you can see Roßdorf am Forst and the foothills of the Franconian Switzerland .

history

In the 1970s, the foundations of a small single-nave stone church in Amlingstadt were excavated, which is interpreted as one of the 14 Slavic churches of the Würzburg bishop Berowelf . With these churches, the Slavic mission in the Main and Regnitz region was to be promoted at the end of the 8th century .

On May 1, 1978, the previously independent municipality of Amlingstadt was incorporated into the municipality of Strullendorf.

Transport and infrastructure

Amlingstadt is located on State Road 2188 in the direction of Bamberg and vice versa, with interruptions in the street name, to about Plankenfels in Franconian Switzerland. The closest train station is in Strullendorf. Amlingstadt is connected by local public transport with lines 8220 and 8335 in the direction of Bamberg.

In Amlingstadt there is a primary school that works with the elementary school in Strullendorf and consists of the first to fourth grade.
