Wernsdorf is a district of the Strullendorf community in the Bamberg district in Upper Franconia , Bavaria .

In 2010 there were 441 inhabitants in Wernsdorf.

Wernsdorf is combined with the neighboring town of Amlingstadt . The place is at an altitude of 281 m above sea level. NN. Wernsdorf is on the state roads 2188 and  2210 .

Wernsdorf Castle is located in the village .

history

The history of Wernsdorf can be traced back several centuries. In the legal book of Bishop Friedrich von Hohenlohe from 1348 there is an express report of the village of Wernsdorf with its Franconian castle, today's Wernsdorf Castle, and the Klebhof estate, today's Schiller Inn. There are other records showing that these two buildings existed before. The castle probably stands on the remains of a fortified castle that Charlemagne had built around 790 AD. The castle was one of the cornerstones of the West and was located on a trade route that led to the Slavic countries. The present castle was first mentioned in a document around 1114. The bishop of Bamberg was then given as the lord of the castle.

On January 1, 1972, the previously independent municipality of Wernsdorf was incorporated into the municipality of Strullendorf.
