history

Until the church is planted

Frensdorf is likely to have originated between the years 750 and 900 (so-called Franconian land grab) and was first mentioned in a document in 1139. The Counts of Abenberg made Frensdorf the administrative center of their possessions in the Bamberg area in the 12th century. Like the Counts of Andechs-Meranien who followed them around 1190, they were bailiffs of the Bamberg Monastery , which Frensdorf belonged to until the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss of 1803. From 1500 the village was part of the Franconian Empire . Since the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss of 1803, the place, like large parts of Franconia, has belonged to Bavaria (see also History of Franconia ).

Incorporations

As a result of the regional reform, today's municipality of Frensdorf was created on May 1, 1978 through the incorporation of the municipalities of Birkach, Herrnsdorf and Reundorf formed with the municipal edict of 1818 .

Administrative community

Until 2001 formed Frensdorf with the neighboring community Pettstadt the administrative community Frensdorf , which was dissolved on 1 January 2002. Since then, both communities have had their own administrations.

coat of arms

Coat of arms of Frensdorf
Blazon : “The shield is split by blue and gold; in front (on the left as seen by the observer) two lions striding one above the other, behind St. John in black fur, holding a black cross staff in his right hand, a black lamb at his feet. "

The front half of the shield shows the coat of arms of the Counts of Abenberg . Saint John is attested as the patron saint of the parish church as early as the 14th century. The colors black on gold on the rear half of the shield correspond to the colors of the bishopric of Bamberg. The field colors blue and gold could be reminiscent of the coat of arms colors of the Andechs-Meranians.
