Hallstadt is a town in the Upper Franconian district of Bamberg .

geography

Hallstadt is located in a wide valley on the left, south-eastern bank of the Main , four kilometers north of Bamberg's old town and three kilometers above the confluence of the Regnitz in the Main. Here the current turns its course from south to west in a few meanders .

In Hallstadt, the Main's status as a federal waterway begins at the railway bridge at river kilometer 387.69 .

history

St. Kilian, Hallstadt

Until the church is planted

Excavations showed a around 5000 BC. A settlement of Neolithic arable farmers that came into being.

Around 670, the later Franconian saint Kilian preached in Hallstadt, and almost 50 years later, in 719, St. Boniface tried to convert the Teutons of Hallstadt. 200 years later, in 1007, King Heinrich II gave the Hallstadt court to the bishopric of Bamberg, which he founded, and in 1013 received the church and parish Hallstadt back from the Bishop of Würzburg for the Gerau court on the Upper Rhine .

With the construction of the Main Bridge by Bishop Lamprecht von Brunn in 1395, the place also gained commercial importance. In 1430 Hallstadt was burned down by the Hussites . It was not until 1503 that the place had recovered to such an extent that Hallstadt was allowed to be called a market from then on . However, only two generations later in 1553, Margrave Albrecht Alcibiades of Brandenburg-Kulmbach occupied and destroyed Bamberg and Hallstadt. From 1617 to 1618 witch trials took place under Prince-Bishop Johann Gottfried I von Aschhausen ; 53 citizens were executed . In 1630 the plague raged in Hallstadt, in 1633 it was burned down in the Thirty Years War .

Between 1756 and 1763 Prussian soldiers under Frederick the Great occupied Bamberg and Hallstadt several times. In 1802, Elector Max Joseph of Bavaria announced that he had taken possession of the Bamberg monastery and part of the Franconian country; In 1808 King Max I visited the place. In the course of the administrative reforms in Bavaria , today's municipality was created with the municipal edict of 1818 .

19th to 21st century

In 1880 the place was connected to the rail network and Hallstadt station was opened.

1954 Hallstadt was raised to the city. On January 1, 1970, the districts of Bruckertshof and Kramersfeld were outsourced to Bamberg .
