Lempdes is a French commune in the department of Puy-de-Dôme in the region Auvergne Rhône-Alpes region of central France. The municipality belongs to the arrondissement of Clermont-Ferrand , is part of the canton of Pont-du-Château and has 8,409 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017).

Lempdes is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Pont-du-Château in the north and northeast, Mur-sur-Allier with Dallet in the east, Cournon-d'Auvergne in the south, Clermont-Ferrand in the west and Aulnat in the north-west.

Autoroute A711 and Autoroute A712 run through the municipality . Part of Clermont-Ferrand Auvergne Airport is in the municipality

Lempdes is part of the Côtes d'Auvergne wine region .

Parish partnership

A partnership has existed with the German municipality of Hallstadt in Upper Bavaria in Bavaria since 1992. Mangualde has also been Lempdes' twin town in Portugal, where the last Citroën 2CV rolled off the assembly line in 1990, since 2018 .

Personalities

  • Jean-Baptiste Lamy (1814–1888), Archbishop of Santa Fe (New Mexico)
  • Pierre-Jules Boulanger (1885–1950), most recently Citroën manager, “father” of the 2CV, lived in Lempdes from 1926 until his fatal car accident, where he is buried.
