Cournon-d'Auvergne is a city with 20,043 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the French region of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes and the second largest city in the Puy-de-Dôme department after Clermont-Ferrand . The city is located in the Arrondissement of Clermont-Ferrand , it is the capital (French: chef-lieu ) of the canton of Cournon-d'Auvergne .

Cournon-d'Auvergne is located southeast of Clermont-Ferrand on the Allier River , into which the Auzon flows.
