Aulnat is a French municipality with 4046 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Puy-de-Dôme in the region Auvergne Rhône-Alpes . It belongs to the Arrondissement of Clermont-Ferrand and the Canton of Gerzat .

geography

Aulnat is located on the Artière River in the Limagne region and is a banlieue of Clermont-Ferrand . Aulnat is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Malintrat in the north and northeast, Pont-du-Château in the east, Lempdes in the south and southeast and Clermont-Ferrand in the west.

A large part of Clermont-Ferrand Auvergne Airport is in the municipality.

history

Until 1839 Aulnat belonged to the municipality of Malintrat. During the Second World War, the town was bombed several times and in April 1944 particularly violently because of the contested airfield.
