geography
The medieval village center is visible from afar on a small plateau. To the east of the village is a small plain, to the south the terrain rises to the 848 m high Puy de Saint-Sandoux, in the north to the 716 m high Puy de Peyronère.
history
The village, which can be traced back to Gallo-Roman times, was called Maismac until the 11th century. It was given its current name in honor of the Merovingian saint St. Sindulfus, the patron saint of the village church at the time.
From the 13th century the village belonged to the La Tour d'Auvergne family , in the 16th century Catherine de Médicis , and finally in 1607 to the Lords of Travers, whose castle is on the northern edge of the village.

The medieval village center still shows traces of the complex as a fortified village. From the village and above all from the Puy de Saint-Sandoux, which can be reached via hiking trails, there are views of the beautiful landscape of the surrounding area.
