Jürgen Weigelt (born December 12, 1949 in Bernburg (Saale) ) is a German archaeologist and museum director as well as politician ( CDU ) and from 2006 to 2016 a member of the state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt .

Life

After graduating from the Polytechnic High School in 1966, Jürgen Weigelt trained to be a skilled chemical worker until 1968. He then studied process engineering with a degree in engineering in 1978. In 1986, Weigelt worked as a restorer for archaeological excavations and between 1980 and 1991 as a district archaeologist at the Museum Schloss Bernburg . Then, from 1991 to 1993, he was head of the cultural office in the Bernburg district . From 1993 to 2006 Weigelt held the position of Museum Director of the Museum Schloss Bernburg.

In 2008 Weigelt was chairman of the supervisory board of the handball development company Anhalt Bernburg mbH. He is Catholic, married and has two children.

Jürgen Weigelt joined the CDU in 1990. In 1990 and 1991 he was a member of the Bernburg district council . Since 1999 he has been a member of the Bernburg city council and since 2007 of the district council of the Salzlandkreis . Weigelt is also the cultural policy spokesman for the CDU state parliamentary group and chairman of the state committee for culture.

In March 2006 Jürgen Weigelt was elected to the state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt via constituency 21 ( Bernburg ). There he is secretary to the President of the State Parliament as well as a member of the Committee for Education, Science and Culture and the Committee for Reviewing Members of Parliament for a job for the State Security Service of the GDR.

In the 2011 election, too , he was able to win the Bernburg constituency and move into the state parliament for another legislative period. In 2016, however, he lost to Sarah Sauermann from the AfD in the fight for the direct mandate ; as his list position was also insufficient to move in, he left the state parliament.
