Le Cendre is a French municipality with 5426 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Puy-de-Dôme in the region Auvergne Rhône-Alpes . It is located about ten kilometers southeast of Clermont-Ferrand .
geography
The historic village is close to the Auzon river , which flows into the Allier not far from Le Cendre . Small businesses have settled along the Clermont-Ferrand - Issoire railway line . East of the village center is the Gondole archaeological site (see below).
history
The Gondole archaeological site is located in the municipality . It is a Gallic oppidum . After the oppidum Corent was abandoned in the 1st century BC. Chr. Occurred Gergovia and Gondole in his place before the era Augustonometum (Clermont-Ferrand) became the settlement center.
Somewhat outside the oppidum, a mysterious Gallo-Roman burial place with the skeletons of 8 riders with their horses was discovered during work on a bypass road in February 2002.
Le Cendre is a suburb of Clermont-Ferrand. The small historic village center is surrounded by numerous residential areas. The suburban character comes u. a. through the connection to the urban bus system and the presence of a train station. Le Cendre forms a closed settlement area with the municipality of Cournon-d'Auvergne .

- The banks of the Auzon were expanded into a recreational area with playgrounds, sports facilities and picnic areas in 2007. The so-called "Coulée Verte" is lined with several old mills and also leads through the town center. An extension to the Allier and Orcet is planned.
