Billom is a French city in the region Auvergne Rhône-Alpes in the Puy-de-Dôme in the Arrondissement Clermont-Ferrand and the capital of the canton Billom .
The city is 25 kilometers from Clermont-Ferrand at 345 to 563 meters above sea level . The population is 4741 (as of January 1, 2017), the municipality area is 17 square kilometers. The place is traversed by the Angaud , a tributary of the Jauron , which is called Madet above the confluence .
history
Billom, the Billiomagus of the Gauls , is the old capital of Limagne and one of the oldest cities in Auvergne, where the Merovingians owned a palace and a mint . There has been a well-known university here since the Middle Ages, which in 1556 under the Bishop of Clermont was converted into a no less famous Jesuit college by the Jesuit Edmond Auger; studied here z.
