The Artière is a river in France that runs in the Puy-de-Dôme department in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region . It rises in the Volcans d'Auvergne Regional Nature Park , at the foot of the Chaîne des Puys , near the hamlet of Manson , in the municipality of Saint-Genès-Champanelle . The river generally drains in a north-westerly direction and traverses the agglomeration of Clermont-Ferrand , where parts of it have been laid underground. In Aulnat , north of the airport Aeroport de Clermont-Ferrand-Aulnat the ARTIERE takes over the cleaned wastewater from Clermont-Ferrand from the local main sewage treatment plant and ends after a total of 30 kilometers in the municipality of Les Martres-d'Artière as a left tributary of the Allier .
