Volcans d'Auvergne Regional Natural Park
The Regional Nature Park Volcans d'Auvergne ( French Parc naturel régional des Volcans d'Auvergne ) was founded on October 25, 1977. It is located in the Auvergne region and consists of 153 municipalities in the Puy-de-Dôme and Cantal departments . With an area of around 395,000 hectares and a north-south extension of 120 km, it is the largest of the French regional nature parks. The park administration is based in the municipality of Aydat , in Montlosier Castle ( 45 ° 41 ′ 38 ″ N , 2 ° 57 ′ 5 ″ E, ), where also a documentation center is housed.
Landscapes
The park's territory is made up of five special landscapes.
- the chain of 80 volcanic cones of the Chaîne des Puys , with the Puy de Dôme (1465 m),
- the mountain range Monts Dore , with the Puy de Sancy (1886 m),
- the Cézallier highlands , with the Signal du Luguet (1551 m)
- the Artense granite plateau (height around 800 m),
- the mountain massif Monts du Cantal , with the Plomb du Cantal (1855 m).
