Artense
The Artense is a plateau of granite rock in central France in the region Auvergne .
location
It lies on the border between the Puy-de-Dôme and Cantal departments . In the west it is bordered by the Dordogne valley , in the south and east by that of the Rhue , and in the north it joins the foothills of the volcanic mountain range of the Monts Dore .
relief
The Artense lies at an altitude of 600 to 1000 meters and, with its small basins and hills, forms a friendly landscape, where meadows, forests and lakes with clear water alternate. The rivers cut deep into the granite rock.
vegetation
Forests of beech and fir trees form the dominant ground cover, but the relatively low altitude allows some oaks to assert themselves here. The meadow and willow areas represent a smaller proportion of the ground cover. Here we encounter the characteristic plants of the granite landscape: bracken and broom . The water resources are very abundant in this landscape, on the western border the dam of Bort-les-Orgues forms the largest hydroelectric power station in the region. The area is part of the Volcans d'Auvergne Regional Nature Park .
