The Tarentaine is a river in France , in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region . It rises in the Puy-de-Dôme department , in the Monts Dore on the southwest flank of the Puy Ferrand summit (1854 m), in the Volcans d'Auvergne Regional Nature Park . The river runs in a south-westerly direction, crosses the Artense plateau , forms the border between the Puy-de-Dôme and Cantal departments over a length of about 20 kilometers , then crosses the border and flows a total of 35 kilometers below Champs-sur- Tarentaine as a right tributary to the Rhue .
