Monts Dore
The massif of the Monts Dore (French: massif des Monts Dore ) is located in the French central massif of the Auvergne in the Puy-de-Dôme department .
geology
The mountain range is of volcanic origin. The highest peaks are the Puy de la Perdrix ( 1824 m ), Puy de Sancy ( 1885 m ) and Puy Ferrand ( 1854 m ). These surround the Vallée de Chaudefour, which opens to the northeast, in a horseshoe shape . At the entrance to the valley there is a natural history information center as a starting point for hikes. Another volcanic attraction is the Roches Tuilière et Sanadoire rock formation . At the edge of the massif are volcanic lakes and maars such as the Lac Chambon bathing lake in the northeast and Lac Pavin in the southeast.
