location

history
The Gauls used the thermal springs here with temperatures of 38 and 40 ° C. Later, the Romans built a spacious, richly equipped thermal bath . During the Middle Ages, bathing was forgotten, and it wasn't until the end of the 17th century that “Mont d'Or” (“golden mountain”) saw bathers again. In the 19th century, the place with its tightly packed houses built from gray lava rock, like the neighboring spa La Bourboule, developed into a thermal bathing resort. The hot springs containing carbonic acid and silicon are used for the therapy of asthmatic and rheumatic diseases. The center is shaped by tourism. In 2006 the place had 1,464 inhabitants.
