Charbonnier-les-Mines is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Saint-Germain-Lembron in the north and northwest, Beaulieu in the north and northeast, Brassac-les-Mines in the east and northeast, Sainte-Florine in the east and southeast, Moriat in the south and west as well Vichel to the west and northwest.
