Saint-Julien-Puy-Lavèze is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Briffons in the north and north-west, Laqueuille in the east and south-east, Saint-Sauves-d'Auvergne in the south and Saint-Sulpice in the west and south-west.
The municipality is affected by the Clidane river, the Miouze runs along the eastern municipal boundary . In addition, the A89 autoroute runs through the municipality.
