Vernines is a French commune of 420 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Puy-de-Dôme in the region Auvergne Rhône-Alpes (before 2016 Auvergne ). Vernines belongs to the Arrondissement Issoire (until 2017 Clermont-Ferrand ) and the canton Orcines (until 2015 Rochefort-Montagne ). The inhabitants are called Verninois .

Vernines is about 15 miles southwest of Clermont-Ferrand . Vernines is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Saint-Bonnet-près-Orcival in the north, Aurières in the east and northeast, Saulzet-le-Froid in the south and southeast and Orcival in the west.
