Singles is a French municipality with 167 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Puy-de-Dôme in the region Auvergne Rhône-Alpes . It belongs to the community association Sancy Artense Communauté .
geography
Singles is three kilometers north of Larodde , 18 kilometers east of Ussel and 17 kilometers west of La Bourboule . The Dordogne flows through the municipality.
history
Singles was mentioned at the end of the 11th century for the first time, at that time it belonged to the priory of Sauxillanges . In 1356, the then Seigneur von Singles was captured in the battle of Maupertuis and brought to England with Jean II . In 1682, Louis XIV allowed the installation of lead mines.
Attractions
The Saint-Nazaire church is dedicated to Saint Nazarius . The choir and nave were built at the end of the 12th century. In the 16th century a door to the south to the cemetery was built. The bell tower was rebuilt in the 19th century. In the church there is a damaged statue of Jean Baptiste de La Salle (1651–1719), from the 18th century. It is made of painted wood. The statue has been classified as a Monument historique (historical monument) since 1982 .
economy
The image of the community is characterized by willows. La sablière du Bachou is a sand pit in Singles. An important branch of business is the breeding of domestic cattle.
