geography

Champeix on the Couze Chambon

The traditional trading center in Auvergne with 1,360 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) is located on the vine- planted slopes of the Couze Chambon valley at the fork in the road where the two roads of Issoire (11 kilometers) and Clermont-Ferrand (21 kilometers) join the mountain road in the direction of the Monts Dore massif.

Since the village is located in a narrow valley enclosed by hills, it can barely expand.

history

Toponyms of the place in the Middle Ages were: Champeils (1214) and Champelhs (1373).
