The canton of Champs-sur-Tarentaine-Marchal was 2015 a French canton in Cantal and in the former region Auvergne . It included four parishes in the Mauriac arrondissement ; its capital (French: chef-lieu ) was Champs-sur-Tarentaine-Marchal .

history

The canton was founded on March 4, 1790 as part of the establishment of the départements as part of the then "District de Mauriac". With the creation of the arrondissements on February 17, 1800, the canton was assigned to the arrondissement Mauriac and redesigned. The nationwide changes in the composition of the cantons finally resulted in its dissolution in March 2015.

The canton bordered the former cantons of Tauves and La Tour-d'Auvergne in the Arrondissement Issoire in the Puy-de-Dôme department to the north and northeast , the canton Condat in the arrondissement Saint-Flour to the southeast, and the cantons Riom-ès to the south -Montagnes and Saignes and in the west to the canton Bort-les-Orgues in the arrondissement of Ussel in the department of Corrèze , region of Limousin .
