The canton of Saignes was 2015 a French constituency in Cantal and in the former region Auvergne . It comprised twelve parishes in the Mauriac arrondissement ; its main town (French: chef-lieu ) was Saignes .

history

The canton was founded on March 4, 1790 as part of the establishment of the départements as part of the then "District de Mauriac". With the creation of the arrondissements on February 17, 1800, the canton was assigned to the arrondissement Mauriac and redesigned. The nationwide changes in the composition of the cantons resulted in its dissolution in March 2015.

geography

The canton bordered in the northwest and north on the cantons Neuvic and Bort-les-Orgues in the arrondissement Ussel in the department of Corrèze ( Limousin ), in the east on the canton Riom-ès-Montagnes and in the south on the canton Mauriac .
