Location of the canton of Mauriac in the Cantal department |
The Canton Mauriac is a French constituency in the region Auvergne Rhône-Alpes . It is located in the Mauriac arrondissement of the Cantal department . His bureau centralisateur is in Mauriac .
history
The canton was created on March 4, 1790 as part of what was then the "District de Mauriac". With the establishment of the arrondissements on February 17, 1800, the canton was assigned to the arrondissement Mauriac and redesigned. From 1800 to 2015, eleven municipalities belonged to the canton of Mauriac. The canton was enlarged on March 22, 2015 as part of the reorganization of the cantons. Another fifteen municipalities from other cantons were added. But six of the eleven previous municipalities also moved to other cantons. The communes of the new canton come from the cantons of Pleaux (8 communes), Salers (7 communes) and Mauriac (5 communes). This is why the canton of Mauriac has now had twenty municipalities since 2015. Before 2015 it had a different INSEE code than it does today, namely 1509.

The canton borders on the canton of Ydes in the north, on the canton of Riom-ès-Montagnes in the east, on the cantons of Naucelles and Saint-Paul-des-Landes in the south and on the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region in the west . The canton is located in the south of the Mauriac arrondissement in the northwest of the Cantal department.
