The Canton of Riom-ès-Montagnes is a French constituency in the Cantal and the region Auvergne Rhône-Alpes . It comprises 23 municipalities from the arrondissements of Saint-Flour (9 municipalities) and Mauriac (14 municipalities), its bureau centralisateur is in Riom-ès-Montagnes . As part of the nationwide reorganization of the French cantons, it was significantly expanded in spring 2015.
history
The canton was created on March 4, 1790 as part of what was then the "District de Mauriac". With the establishment of the arrondissements on February 17, 1800, the canton was assigned to the arrondissement Mauriac and redesigned. From 1800 to 2015, eight communes belonged to the canton of Riom-ès-Montagnes. The canton was enlarged on March 22, 2015 as part of the reorganization of the cantons. A further twelve municipalities from other cantons were added. The communes of the new canton come from the cantons Condat (9 communes), Canton Riom-ès-Montagnes (8 communes), Mauriac and Salers (3 communes each). This is why the canton of Riom-ès-Montagnes has now had 23 municipalities since 2015.
geography
The canton borders in the north with the canton Ydes and the department Puy-de-Dôme , in the east with the canton Murat , in the south with the cantons Naucelles and Vic-sur-Cère and in the west with the canton Mauriac .

Canton of Riom-ès-Montagnes until 2015
The old canton of Riom-ès-Montagnes comprised the eight municipalities of Apchon , Collandres , Menet , Riom-ès-Montagnes , Saint-Étienne-de-Chomeil , Saint-Hippolyte , Trizac and Valette . Its layout corresponded to an area of 233.38 km 2 . Before 2015 it had a different INSEE code than it does today, namely 1515.

Elections to the Council of the Cantal Department
In the elections on March 22, 2015, none of the three candidate pairs achieved a majority of votes. The team Valérie Cabecas Roquier / Charles Rodde (Divers) won in the 2nd ballot against Jean Mage / Claudine Robert ( DVD ) with a share of the vote of 51.60% (turnout: 57.99%).
