Menet

Menet is a French municipality with 555 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Cantal in the region of Auvergne Rhône-Alpes ; it belongs to the arrondissement of Mauriac and the canton of Riom-ès-Montagnes .

geography

The municipality is located around six kilometers northwest of the canton capital Riom-ès-Montagnes in the Volcans d'Auvergne Regional Nature Park . Menet's neighboring municipalities are Saint-Étienne-de-Chomeil in the north, Riom-ès-Montagnes in the east, Valette in the south, Trizac in the south-west, Le Monteil in the west (in the Haute-Loire department ) and La Monselie in the north-west. In the east of the municipality, the Sumène river runs north, in the western part its tributary Violon runs north-west. To the north of the village of Menet is the Lac de Menet , which drains to the Sumène.

Transport links

The eastern municipal area is crossed by the departmental road D3, which runs from Riom-ès-Montagnes in a north-westerly direction and joins the D922 between Ydes and Bort-les-Orgues . A railway line runs parallel to it, on which the Gentiane Express tourist train runs today .
