The Sumène is a river in France that runs in the Cantal department in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region . It rises on the Plateau de Trizac , in the Volcans d'Auvergne Regional Nature Park , on the municipal boundary of Collandres and Trizac . The Sumène initially drains in a northerly direction, but north-west of Riom-ès-Montagnes it suddenly swings west and after a total of 47 kilometers it flows into the arches and Veyrières , in the backwater of the Barrage de l'Aigle , as a left tributary into the Dordogne . At its confluence, the Sumène meets the neighboring Corrèze department in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region .
