The Mars is a river in France that runs in the Cantal department in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region . It rises in the mountain area of Monts du Cantal on the northwest flank of the Puy Mary (1783 m) in the so-called Cirque du Falgoux . The river generally drains in a north-westerly direction through a sparsely populated area and crosses the Volcans d'Auvergne Regional Nature Park in its upper reaches . After a total of 41 kilometers, it finally flows into the Sumène as a left tributary at Vendes , on the municipal boundary of Méallet and Bassignac .
